Noise and Vibrations requirements, ship and machinery design

Noise and vibration comfort is one of the may aspects of crew and passenger health and well being. We help the industry through our noise and vibration prediction calculations, based on which we provide our design recommendations so that contractual or regulatory requirements are met.

Noise and vibration health risk and comfort assessment

It is sometimes difficult for ship owners to understand the rules and regulation of noise and vibration on board ships and their obligations as employers with regards to crew’s health and safety. As a result, many ship operators are still not aware that The Merchant Shipping and Fishing Vessels (Control of Vibration at Work) Regulations 2007 has come into force since February 2008. This means that a full noise and vibration evaluation of their fleet is required focussing on the impact noise and vibration on the crew’s health (MGN 352 and 353). We offer the complete package to help ship operators fulfil their obligations:

  • performing noise and vibration measurements according to MGN 352 and MGN 353,
  • analysis of measurement results and calculation of workers dose values according to MGN 352 and MGN 353,
  • produce reports containing fully complying with MGN 352 and MGN 353,
  • providing practical recommendations so that legal noise and vibration dose values limits are not exceeded,
  • performing crew health surveillance if required.
